This new long-term exhibition of items from the collections of the City Gallery Prague in Troja Château will present works by leading Czech painters who prepared the ground for the modernist movement still in the 19th century (Maxmilián Pirner, Zdeňka Braunerová, Antonín Hudeček, Antonín Slavíček), as well as by members of subsequent generations who embraced, in the first third of the 20th century, expressive idioms (Emil Artur Pittermann-Longen, Václav Špála, Jindřich Prucha, Otakar Nejedlý), or adhered to the Neoclassical style (Otakar Kubín, Willi Nowak).
While the exhibition is thematically focused on the genre of landscape, its principal aim is to provide a survey of formal transformation. The paintings on display will be supplemented by an array of Art Nouveau sculpture (Ladislav Šaloun, Josef Mařatka, Bohumil Kafka), and examples of the modernistic output of the sculptors Jan Štursa and Otto Gutfreund.
