ONEGIN

The National Theatre Ballet is linking up to the tradition of staging ballets by the celebrated choreographer John Cranko, and Onegin is undoubtedly one of his paramount works. The ballet, based on A. S. Pushkin’s famous novel in verse, tells the story of a world-weary Russian aristocrat who spurns the love of the young girl Tatiana and gives preference to flirting with her sister Olga. A few years later, Onegin realises that he made a mistake – but now it is too late. Cranko’s famed ballet requires expressive dramatic performances, brilliant dance technique and a very deep sense of expression of individual characters. In addition to the beautiful lovesick pas de deux scenes of Onegin and the young Tatiana, the performance comprises impressive chorus dance scenes.
