BOTAS 66

BOTAS 66

Botas is a leading producer of original, high-quality sneakers which are easy to love.
Botas came up with the model that is today known as the 'Classic' in 1966. It was designed by Marcel Scheinpflug and was initially manufactured using Mongolian horse-hide. In the eighties the model was updated significantly (by Milan Mlynář) and made a very strong comeback in 2005, when botas shoes ranked among the 100 Czech Design Icons.

In 2008, Jan Kloss and Jakub Korouš (students of graphic design and visual communication at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague) used it as the basis for their 'botas 66' school project, which won the European Design Awards (ED-Awards) and later won the National Award for Student Design.

Under the new botas 66 sublabel, a collection of 16 various models was created for the 2009/10 season which took third place in the Manufacturer of the Year category at the prestigious Czech Grand Design Awards and was selected to represent Czech industry at the Czech Selection event in Milan, Italy. The number of models is currently 24 and counting.

Since the start of the new botas collection, the shoes have been manufactured using the same classic technology in the town of Skuteč in the heart of the Czech Republic. Within the first few months the shoes were well established on the domestic market. In autumn 2009 the botas 66 under construction presentation won the award for the best show exhibit at Designblok.

The first Botas Concept Store celebrated its opening in the Prague city centre in December 2009. The future of this legendary brand is literally in your hands. Let’s keep this classic Czech product moving.
