SALAMANDER / HISTORY
The origins of the company can be traced back to 1885 when Jakog Sigle, a twenty-three years old shoemaker from the German town Kornwestheim, set up his own business and started making shoes on his own account. His business thrived, and he was later joined by Max Levi, a leather merchant from Stuttgart. By 1897 they were already making shoes in a four-storey workshop, and four years into the new century they had the characteristic Salamander logo and font patented. Shortly after, they opened their own factory, and by the end of the first decade of the 20th century, there was already a network of 26 brand shops.
