The Petřín funicular was put into operation on July 25th 1891 on the occasion of the Jubilee Exhibition.
It measured 396,5 metres, was operated by hydraulic drive and used to be the longest funicular in Austro-Hungary.

The funicular was modernised in 1932. It was extended to 510 metres and the hydraulic drive was exchanged for electric drive.
At the same time the station Na Nebozízku was built half way up the hill allowing access to a well-known restaurant, which offers magnificent views of Prague.
